The Wolf They Used Up

I came home after seven years in enemy hands, grateful just to be back. My parents held me close. My mate proposed the same day. I thought I had survived the worst. Then I heard them plotting in the hallway outside my hospital room — my heart, my body, my life, all quietly signed over to the girl they loved more. They never planned to kill me.
