Chapter 5

Logan's gaze darkened, and he immediately pulled Chloe into his arms.

“Honey, you’re so thoughtful. We really can’t save it, or we’ll just get ourselves into a mess.”

Blood slowly trickled down Arthur's head. I panicked, turned around, and grabbed Chloe's skirt.

“Chloe, no matter how much you hated me in the past, the child is innocent. I kowtow to you and beg you to save my child.”

Chloe grinned maliciously and pinched my chin.

"Now you know you were wrong?"

"Where did your arrogance go? Aren't you the little princess of Riverton? Why are you crawling on the ground begging me like a dog now?"

I know Chloe won't let me off the hook until she's humiliated me enough. Charles and the mayor went to inspect the site and I don't know when they'll be back. Every minute that's wasted means one less chance for Arthur.

I quickly lay down on the ground and barked twice.

"Mrs. Bennett is right, I am a dog, a shameless bitch. Please, have mercy on me."

I don't know if it was the title "Mrs. Bennett" that pleased her, or my servile manner that pleased her; she covered her mouth and giggled.

“Oh dear, Riverton’s first little princess is now acting as my dog, I can’t accept that.”

Logan smiled with satisfaction.

“Chloe, you were born noble and beautiful, but you were unexpectedly left to fall into poverty. You will become the first lady of Riverton in the future.”

Chloe was finally satisfied. She casually picked up a chair leg, revealing a exposed iron nail.

“Evelyn, if you slash your face right now, I’ll save your son immediately.”

He then threw the chair leg at me.

I looked at the thick iron nail, which was about ten centimeters long, and then at Chloe and Logan's smug smiles.

Someone couldn't stand it and said something.

“Mr. Bennett, that’s enough. It would be bad if the Prince saw all this mess when he arrived.”

Chloe snorted coldly.

“Mr. Lewis, you don’t know Evelyn. She’s shameless. She’ll throw herself at any man she sees. I’m doing this for her own good, so she won’t cause any scandals and embarrass us women.”

Suddenly, he slammed the iron nail from the chair leg into my face. A sharp pain shot through me, followed by the agony of my skin tearing. Blood gushed out instantly, dripping down my face and onto the ground.

Someone gasped.

"It's so deep, this face is ruined."

Chloe, with a ferocious expression, pulled out the nail and raised it again to slash at my face.

I closed my eyes in terror, screaming desperately in my heart.

"Charles, when are you coming to save our son...?"

Suddenly the door opened.

A loud voice rang out, silencing the entire hall.

"Prince Charles has arrived."
