When My Amnesiac Husband Divorced Me, I Remembered I Was an Alien
Chapter 4
Taking the seat across from Summer, I noticed how frail she still looked, likely in her early weeks of pregnancy.
"You wanted to see me? I've already agreed to the divorce," I said, getting straight to the point.
To my surprise, Summer burst into tears.
"What are you crying for? I said I'm signing it," I frowned, utterly baffled.
She simply dabbed at her eyes with a napkin, trembling. "I'm sorry... I'm so sorry."
Watching a fragile beauty weep like that softened my edge despite myself.
"You don't owe me an apology. It's not like you caused his amnesia. Accidents happen," I took a sip of my coffee. Usually, I drank it like water, but for the first time, the latte tasted overwhelmingly bitter. "You're having his baby. Just focus on living a good life with him."
Summer sobbed, her shoulders shaking. "I never wanted it to end up like this. Truly, I didn't..."
With heads turning from nearby tables, a wave of exhaustion washed over me.
"Stop crying," I sighed, handing her a tissue. "I don't hold a grudge against you. Seriously."
"Summer!"
The café doors burst open with a crash, and Ethan stormed in like a hurricane.
"I didn't think you could sink this low!" He grabbed my wrist, his grip tightening with enough force to snap the bone. "Summer did nothing wrong! If you have a problem, take it out on me!"
Had his eyesight always been this bad?
"Are you insane? Why would I harass her?"
"Ethan, please, Chloe didn't do anything to me! Let go of her!" Summer cried out, trying to pull his arm away.
Ethan shoved me off violently. My hand smashed into the hard corner of the wooden table with a sickening thud.
I hissed in pain. I was scheduled for an expedition soon; a sprained wrist was the last thing I needed.
Yet Ethan's arrogance only flared higher. He checked Summer over, confirming that she was merely teary-eyed.
"Listen to me, Chloe. I am the one demanding this divorce. If you ever come near Summer again, I swear you'll regret it."
How on earth had my standards been so low back then? Not only were this man's eyes blind, his brain was completely fried.
"And you listen to me, Ethan Smith. We are definitely getting divorced. And..." I raised my uninjured hand and slapped him clean across the face. "Since you're so desperate, bring the papers over immediately. Don't waste my damn time."
