You Choose Your Cunning Mistress, I Left to Reach My Dream
Chapter 2
The bedroom floor was wood, so I was told to scrub it inch by inch on my knees with a rag.
Janelle's favorite flowers were planted under the bedroom window, but she was allergic to pollen. That was why every time she opened the window, I had to thoroughly clean the bedroom.
My whole body trembled from the pain, but I still obediently picked up the rag and began scrubbing.
The dirty water in the bucket touched my skin, causing bursts of burns.
Only after I had cleaned the entire room did I stand up and look at Nicholas indifferently.
"Is that enough?"
Nicholas looked away, avoiding my increasingly grotesque wounds.
"Laura, it was clearly your negligence that caused Janelle's allergies. Who are you putting on this act for now?"
"We're divorced. You're the one who brought it up!"
I nodded and pulled my suitcase to leave, but ran into the family doctor, who rushed over.
She was shocked when she saw me.
"Madam, your burn is so serious. You need to go to the hospital immediately! Let me help you deal with it first!"
Before she could put down her medical kit, Nicholas pulled her over to Janelle.
"She's the patient."
The doctor looked at Janelle, who only had a mild allergy, in disbelief. Then, she looked at me, who had been burned. However, she could only lower his head to examine Janelle.
While everyone was gathered around Janelle, I quickly opened the door and left.
I endured the pain in my body and walked for a long time before I finally got out of the villa area.
The ambulance I had called on the way had already stopped at the entrance. Seeing the paramedics, I could no longer bear the pain and fainted.
When I woke up again, the burned areas had already been bandaged.
Once I awakened, Nicholas sat by the sofa, sorting through documents. The nurse changing my IV noticed and whispered.
"That must be your husband. He's been here with you these past two days."
After the nurse left, Nicholas put down his documents and walked to my bedside.
He held a bowl of hot soup and handed it to me.
"Try it. I especially ordered it for you."
It was takeout from a restaurant he often went to.
Unfortunately, I had just seen Janelle's latest post. It was soup he had personally made for her.
He didn't get angry when he saw I didn't take it.
Instead, he put the soup on the table and spoke.
"Janelle's illness can't be delayed. Since you're awake, let's start the bone marrow transplant this afternoon."
As soon as he finished speaking, a group of doctors swarmed in.
I heard the doctor talking to Nicholas before the door to the operation room closed.
"Mr. Cabell, your wife's body is not yet in the best condition for donating bone marrow. Moreover, she is injured. If you rashly extract bone marrow, your wife's body functions will likely be damaged."
"Miss Simpson's condition is basically stable now. You can wait until your wife recovers before … "
Before he could finish, Nicholas interrupted him coldly.
"Janelle will suffer one more day without a transplant."
"I can't watch Janelle suffer so much. As for Laura, I will compensate her in the future."
Through the crack in the door, I saw his eyes, devoid of affection. I closed my eyes and overwhelming feelings of grievance swept over me.
The anesthetic was cold as it entered my body, but Nicholas had forgotten I was immune to anesthesia.
The thick needle pierced my spine. The intense pain of the bone marrow extraction made my whole body convulse.
I tried to say the anesthetic hadn't worked, but a nurse clamped a hand tightly over my mouth.
